All are welcome and invited to attend August First Friday at The Palace Gallery! We are excited to introduce Seattle based artist John Smither and his artworks. Stop on by meet the artist and fully experience these lush depictions of the native flora of the PNC.
In this exhibit, John Smither focuses on the Western side flora of the Cascades Mountains in Washington. It is a place he knows well and has spent countless hours immersed beneath a lush canopy of vegetation. Tangled within his oil paintings on panels works are hints of Oregon grape, trailing blackberry, salal, madrone, evergreen huckleberry and many others! He uses the shapes, lines, and profiles of these plants as a starting point for these immersive collages. As a painter, he draws on his long experience as printmaker utilizing stencils and variety of layering to generate luminous hues which draw us the viewer in, bringing us closer to our own recollections of these plants and environments.
