About the artist and their art:
"I aim to create conversation from the interaction between objects, or images of them, and the language used to define them. I create work which leverages everything from installation-like mixed media sculptures and altered objects to large and small ceramic sculptural abstractions and paintings. My creative methods are rooted in exploring and expanding the physical and associative characteristics of an object’s original intention and to invent formulas which weave together, imagery, materials, and objects in a way that re-frames meaning at which point the object becomes a starting point for dialogue between our shared cultural experiences and assumptions."
Karl was born and raised in Homer, Alaska. He earned a BFA from Sierra Nevada College (now University of Nevada) and an MFA from the University of Montana; since then, he’s been a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Montana in Missoula and the Visiting Artist In Residence at North Dakota State University, a Long Term AIR at the Red Lodge Clay Center, and a Summer Fellow at the Archie Bray Foundation. He currently maintains an active studio practice in Ellensburg and works as Assistant Curator and Art Restorer at Dick and Jane's Spot and is the founder of The Palace Gallery.
