The Green Boat
February 7th- March 1st, 2025
an exhibit by
Karl Schwiesow
Opening reception First Friday February 7th from 5-8pm
We are surrounded by things, inundated with significant forms and objects, they locate themselves in our personal hierarchy of importance uniquely from person to person. Karl's creative output aims to create conversation from objects and the language used to define them. He creates artwork which leverages everything from colorful installation-like mixed media sculptures and altered objects to large ceramic sculptural abstractions and paintings which operate as devices to engage in a conversation about the mechanisms of meaning, identity, commodification, and place. The artwork is his research, and it is rooted in exploring and expanding the physical and associative characteristics of an object’s original intention and to invent formulas which weave together imagery, materials, and concepts in a way that re-frames meaning at which point the object becomes a starting point for dialogue between our shared cultural experiences and assumptions. Karl notes that, "...the work continues to provide unique and insightful results." HIs work is quirky, experimental, humorous, whimsical, pointed, sometimes subversive, and often creates more questions than it provides answers. Come by The Palace Gallery and check out the show! Open: Saturday, noon to four and the first Friday of every month from five to eight.
